Since coronavirus and the rapid, often unplanned setup of countless home offices, everything has changed. While the system administrator takes care of updates and patches in the company, many home PCs are not up to date in terms of security. The first problems often arise with the remote connection, as the company client and home office PC should be on the same, up-to-date patch status. This is where the acmp tool CAWUM (Complete aagon Windows Update Management) provides valuable help. Because unlike the widely used Windows Update Services (WSUS), the new aagon solution enables IT managers to Install Windows updates in a controlled, targeted and effective manner.
The key benefits of CAWUM, especially for working from home, include
- Automatic restart: The user does not have to sit at the PC during the update to manually initiate any necessary restart.
- The time of the update can be set individually (e.g. at midnight so as not to disturb the user).
- With the Wake on LANfunction, the PC can be started and then updated via the network
- For clocked home office PCs with a limited data volume, the update installation can be postponed, until an unlimited connection is available. Updates via Mobile communications closes CAWUM on request.
But CAWUM not only provides valuable help when used in home offices. As many IT admins confirm, the tool is a welcome and extremely practical replacement for WSUS. "Once again, this demonstrates the advantage that our developers design the solutions and additional acmp tools in close communication with our customers. They therefore precisely reflect the requirements of IT administrators. And for years, IT managers have been looking for a powerful alternative that makes WSUS superfluous," says Sebastian Weber, Product Manager at aagon.
Some highlights from CAWUM:
- Loads and only installs the updates that the individual clients actually need. This saves bandwidth and time.
- Scans daily for current updates and patches, checks them with regard to Integrity and installs them. WSUS only carries out the update process once a month, on the so-called patch day, which is dreaded by IT admins.
- Selects which patches are to be synchronized in which language on which file repositories .
- Works with individual Release rings and thus enables the Windows updates to be installed on individual test systems can be distributed. This allows risk-free testing of whether everything runs smoothly after the update.
- Creates a Comprehensive protocol when rolling out clients, which shows in detail which updates have been installed. The facilitates troubleshooting if problems occur after the update.
CAWUM was developed as a stand-alone module, so it can also be used without acmp Desktop Automation. In conjunction with acmp Inventory, it enables fully automated update management. The price for acmp CAWUM ranges from 100 to 249 licenses 6,92 Euro (plus VAT) per license plus maintenance.
